Your classmate goes home and takes a drag,
your sister's popping pills.
That's not basil in your son's Ziplock bag.
Your daughter stays home, yet isn't ill.

Your child's grades are beginning to fail
while your niece snorts a line.
"Oh, it's a phase. She isn't frail."
Seriously? She's only nine.

Your son gets beat senseless every hour in the hall
while your daughter hides away her wrists.
Yet when she sits in her room and doesn't speak at all
is when you start getting pissed?

Your wife's a drunk and you don't really mind,
it won't effect your kid at all.
Then again, this Friday night
she took shots in your apartment complex's hall.

Your son's friends are in a gang
and your daughter got knocked up.
She's only 13 and you let her bang?
Let her stuff her bras for a C cup?

Your nephew comes over and shares his crack
with your pure little girl.
Yet you forgive her when she comes back
and does her little polka-dot dress twirl?

Your daughter comes home and begins to cry;
"Mommy, I've been raped!"
"Oh, shut up, you know exactly why:
Your clothes are thinner than ripped drapes!"

Your son slit his wrists last night
because you go from Jack Daniels to LSD.
Yet you continue to do so despite his cries
and his helpless begs for mercy.

Lilly doesn't understand
how to multiply fractions?
Sorry, the educational system does demand
to move on without her traction.

Not only kids stay away
but teachers do as well.
Watch their student get bullied again
as not a bit of their heart fell.

Your daughter did a line today.
Your son cuts himself at night.
Politely tell them to stop and put it away
because we're great parents, right?

What ever happened to discipline?
Why do we not enforce?
Do you really think she's gonna listen
when you speak softly- "She's an angel, so of course!"

Do not beat your child, dear.
Do not let their heads swirl with stars and birds.
Because you should have learned over the years
that beatings are weaker than words.

You wonder why your pre-teen
has only lust to feel.
But to be blunt, in reality,
you act like it's not that big of a deal.

Now, be a good parent, teacher or peer
and think of these words as bold.
Because, sadly, the lesson you've learned here.
Comes from a 13 year old.

You mothers and fathers wonder why
your children are committing suicide.
You never notice their silent cries,
nor do you take the time to look inside.

You parents sit and ask each other;
"Why won't you tell her what's right?"
When really, you both don't even want to bother
with wasting your breath on giving your child advice.

You all say you tried and tried,
that you actually enforced the opinion in your head.
But do you think we believe you when your child confessed and said;
"Mom, once again, you've lied."

You let your children ruin their lives
yet confess to it when they're questioned.
But you parents, not even when pressured
want to give the truth a try.

You're just as bad as your kids now,
but oh, don't listen to me.
I'm just 13, I don't know what I'm talking about.
Go back to letting your son pop those pills as you sit and watch TV.
My views on my generation and their parents.
